Bell’s Corner woman shot multiple times in her home

The victim awoke to find an open window screen then heard gunshots and realized she’d been hit.

Police detectives are trying to figure out how and why a woman ended up with multiple gunshot wounds after she awoke early Saturday to find an open window screen in her bedroom.

The gunfire occurred at about 12:35 a.m. on the 8500 block of Summerdale Avenue in Bell’s Corner.

A 58-year-old woman allegedly reported to police that she awoke in her bed and saw that a window screen had been opened. She got up, closed the screen and returned to her bed, then heard gunshots outside and realized she had been wounded in the arm and upper chest, police said. She called 911.

Police took her to Aria-Jefferson Health’s Torresdale campus, where she was listed in stable condition.

Capt. George Fuchs said that the woman told police her husband arrived home from work soon after the shooting but before police got there. The victim tried to block the door because she feared the shooter was trying to enter her home, Fuchs said.

Police have not released a description of a suspect. ••
